Ignatians is celebrating 35 years of musical theatre in Brisbane.

Ignatians is a community based musical society based in Brisbane. Ignatians will once again present their “Showstoppers’ concert at the Schonell Theatre, UQ for 4 shows only on the 25-27 July.  This year the concert showcases productions Ignatians has staged in the last 35 years.

Since its establishment, Ignatians has staged over 60 major productions, ranging from operetta to Broadway musicals, and was the first society in Australia to complete all of the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. Over the more recent years the society has produced shows including The Sound of Music, Grease, Footloose, Les Miserables and CATS that will all have songs featured.

Featuring a 60-piece choir, a selection of Brisbane’s talented soloists and full orchestra on-stage, conducted by David Law, this is a concert not to be missed! Take a trip down memory lane as Ignatians perform for you a range of numbers from such names as Rogers & Hammerstein, Gilbert & Sullivan, Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber and many more.

President of Ignatians Musical Society, Craig Anderson, says the group is thrilled to be able to present yet again the ever so popular ‘Showstoppers’ concert.

“Showstoppers has been increasing in popularity ever since we introduced it. We aim to bring a musical history of our society to you – even bringing back some of the original soloists who performed these songs in the shows!” Mr Anderson said.

“The society is privileged to again have the talented Harmony Lentz as Director and Musical Director, after her success as Musical Director for the company with Les Misérables (2005), West Side Story (2006) and CATS (2007),” Mr Anderson said.

Showstoppers will run for 4 shows only from 25-27 of July at the Schonell Theatre, University of Queensland with performances held on Friday and Saturday nights at 7.30pm, a matinee performance on Saturday starting at 2pm. The Sunday performance will start at 1pm.

With tickets priced at $30 for adults and $25 for children/concession, this gives real access to a great night of theatre for the whole family.

Mr Anderson says that ‘Showstoppers’ is part of the company’s continued commitment to presenting popular musical performances to our local Brisbane community at a price everyone can afford.
